| Many residents living within the boundaries of the New City Parish congregations are plagued by a general lack of sufficient wages and assets, instability and extreme transience, unemployment, lack of skill and higher education, homelessness and hunger, and racial tension. The ministry of New City Parish is challenged by these social justice issues that impact directly the needy, the homeless, and the low income and immigrant families in the inner-city of Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Compton.
During the last fourteen years, beside the ministry of Word and Sacrament of the coalition’s member churches, the New City Parish has provided a great deal of support to the communities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Compton. NCP operates: after-school and tutoring, summer camp, recreational and sport activities, computer lab, gospel piano lessons, summer lunch and snack.
New City Parish supports three parish nurse programs and maintains a Homelessness and Hunger abatement program at its seven sites that provides seniors lunch during the week, hot meals and grocery bags of food, clothing and hygiene materials, community education and awareness building.
New City Parish participates in several networks advocating for juvenile justice, safe neighborhoods, immigrant rights, and social justice in general. Our congregations and pastors are actively engaging and, when necessary confronting, the social, economic, and political forces to promote peace and justice in our communities.
